3D Map of Wind Turbines in West Devon

It’s been a while since we made a post. We, i.e. the web site folk, have been working on something a little special for you. We thought it would be nice for you have interactive visualization of what the area will look like should the wind turbines that are in the early planning stages go up.

The map we’ve come up with uses a Bing terrain map and Ordnance Survey height data so the source of the data is good. The five turbines, Wrey’s Barton, New  Venn, Ridgecombe, Cardwell and Tredown are all shown as 77 meters high, although one of them is smaller. We’ll fix that in due course but we were keen to shown you this.

Soon,  we’ll add the turbines built and in the pipeline.

Before you click on the link allow 30 secs – 2 mins for the page to load as there is a lot of data. Try reloading if nothing happens. Once it loads, click the blue “I” in the bottom left to get instructions on how to navigate around the map.

We’d love to hear your suggestions and feedback so feel free to add a comment.

Enjoy! http://www.saltag.org/3d/sat.html

If this doesn’t work for you, then it’s probably because your browser doesn’t support WebGL, so you’ll have to make do with this static view from Dartmoor (click to enlarge)

Dartmoor 5

If you are using Safari you have to enable WebGL:

1) Open the Safari menu and select Preferences.
2) Then, click the Advanced tab in the Preferences window.
3) Then, at the bottom of the window, check the Show Develop menu in menu bar checkbox.
4) Then, open the Develop menu in the menu bar and select Enable WebGL.
